Important Notes to Residents on COVID-19

  1. What should I do if I develop COVID-19 symptoms?
  • During office hours: seek immediate medical help from the Campus Medical Clinic and report to the Hall Office. The medical professionals will advise you on the follow up actions.
  • During non-office hours: seek immediate medical help from Accident & Emergency services provided by hospitals, eg. Tseung Kwan O Hospital

 

  1. What should I do if there is a confirmed case on my floor or in my hall?
  • Once a confirmed case is diagnosed, the CHP and the University would conduct contact tracing and notify all “close-contacts” and “possible contacts”.
  • Those identified as “close contacts” will move to a Government quarantine facility for 14 days.
  • Those identified as “possible contacts” will be under “medical surveillance” and separate housing (Temp Bay in Halls VIII and IX) will be arranged for them.
  • Please practise social distancing and watch for symptoms. If you develop fever or any other symptoms, please seek immediate medical help and report to the Hall Office.

 

Definition of Close Contact:

  • Students who stayed at the same place (eg. lived in same apartment or same room) as a confirmed case while they have been symptomatic

Definition of Possible Contact:

  • Students who are required to undergo medical surveillance by CHP.
  • Students with casual exposure with the confirmed case such as sharing a bathroom or a common room on the same floor.

 

  1. What should I do if I have been in close contact with a confirmed case?
  • You should report your contact history by completing the COVID-19 Related Travel and Contact History Report Form and avoid interacting with other people before instruction is given.
  • CHP, our Health, Safety and Environment Office (HSEO) and Student Housing and Residential Life Office (SHRLO) will identify residents with known exposure and close contact with a confirmed case as defined by the CHP.
  • CHP will arrange quarantine for Close Contact(s).

  1. What should I do if I have been in possible contact with a confirmed case?
  • You should report your contact history by completing the COVID-19 Related Travel and Contact History Report Form and avoid interacting with other people before instruction is given.
  • You are required to undergo medical surveillance.
  • Temp Bay in Halls VIII or IX will be arranged by SHRLO for Possible Contact(s).

 

Definition of Possible Contact:

  • Students who are required to undergo medical surveillance by CHP.
  • Students with casual exposure with the confirmed case such as sharing a bathroom or a common room on the same floor.

 

  1. How can I protect myself if I stay in student halls?
  • Practise social distancing as per the advice of CHP
  • Wear masks in communal areas
  • Check body temperature

 

  1. Is there any resident undergoing self-quarantine in student halls?
  • No student halls are used for the self-quarantine purpose. 

 

  1. Does the University provide masks to students?
  • In the past 18 months, about 1.2 million masks were distributed, and the University has now used up the stock set aside to support our members in a time of need.
  • Since facemasks are readily available with a reasonable price in the market, the mask supply scheme has come to an end since 6 August 2021.
  • All members should continue to wear masks, maintain personal and environmental hygiene.
  • Boxes of face masks meeting international standard will continue to be on sale at the Souvenir Shop.

 

  1. Are visitors allowed in halls?
  • To better reduce the risk of transmission, only HKUST members are allowed to enter the student halls currently.
  • All visitors, including the contractors of the university, will have to wear masks and body temperature taken before entering the student halls.

 

  1. Can my friend, who is a HKUST undergraduate, stay overnight in hall under the current Guest Pass Scheme?
  • Due to the pandemic, the Guest Pass Scheme has been suspended until further notice.

 

  1. Who can I talk to if I am feeling anxious?
  • We are in unprecedented times and it is normal to be feeling anxious and unsettled. If you would like to talk with someone, help is always available from your floor tutors or student counselling services.
