Section 1 - Travelling Time to Campus
(for Local students with home base in Hong Kong only)

 

2.a.1.1. Hall point for this section is only applicable to Local non-first year hall applicants with a home base in Hong Kong.

2.a.1.2. Travelling Time (TT) refers to the average one-way travelling time between the shortest route and the cheapest route from the Local hall applicant’s home address to HKUST Campus as given by the HKeMobility during the hall application period. The same measuring method applies to differentiate Local first year applicants with the highest one-way travelling time (refer to paragraph 1.2 for more).

2.a.1.3. Local non-first year applicants are required to upload valid address proof(s) via the online hall application system to substantiate the claim of reported home address during the application period. Otherwise, the hall point in this Section will not be given.

2.a.1.4. The hall point conversion will be 2 minutes to 1 hall point, in which students with 120 minutes or above average one-way travelling time will be given a maximum of 60 hall points.

2.a.1.5. For details about the procedure and requirements of acquiring hall points in this section, please refer to Annex III: Guideline for Section 1 - Travelling Time to Campus.

Section 2 - Leadership and Contribution to Campus Life

 

2.a.2.1. Leadership and Contribution to Campus Life refer to the involvement and promotion of student activities and enrichment of campus and hall life via eligible student groups/teams. This section is applicable to those who will serve in the coming year, and those already serving in the current academic year.

2.a.2.2. Only cross-checked and verified name lists of serving positions in the eligible groups endorsed by The Council, HKUST Student Union, the Dean of Students' Office and/or respective Schools of study will be considered for hall points per position in this section.

2.a.2.3. At most 2 positions of the eligible student group/team would be considered for hall points, with the maximum point capped:

2.a.2.4. Students may declare roles or positions of the coming academic year which are not able to be confirmed at the time of hall application, but eligibility for hall points will be subject to the verification by the Student Housing and Residential Life Office, so as to subsequent offers.

2.a.2.5. Hall points gained from this section but left the position in the middle of the term will be recovered, possibly leading to recovery of the hall offers given.

Section 3 - Outstanding Achievements

 

2.a.3.1. Outstanding Achievements refer to Personal prizes/awards or being a member of the prize-winning team in the previous year by recognized institutes. The events/awards must be organized at the city level or above in order to be eligible for this criterion.

2.a.3.2. The maximum point for this section is capped at 10 points for Local students and 30 points for Non-Local students for personal or team awards/prizes representing HKUST/Hong Kong SAR/applicant’s home countries by recognized institutes in the previous year before hall application.

2.a.3.3. Applicants should submit records with supporting evidence for the Student Housing and Residential Life Office’s verification during the application period. Sufficient information should be shown to prove that the applicant represented HKUST/HKSAR/students’ home countries at the city level or above event(s). Hall points in this section will not be given if the reported award or its representativeness cannot be verified.

2.a.3.4. For details regarding the procedures and requirements for acquiring hall points in this section, please refer to Annex V: Guideline for Section 3 - Outstanding Achievement.

Section 4 - No Hall Offer in Previous Year/ Years

 

2.a.4.1. No Hall Offer in Previous Year/ Years refers to hall points to be given to those who did not receive a hall offer at HKUST (excluding New Students’ Orientation Camp/Summer Residence and students who did not accept a hall offer).

2.a.4.2. Hall points from this section have different eligibility criteria between Local and Non-Local /No-Home-Base:

  Only eligible when no hall offer is received in Points

All the previous residential years since the applicant’s beginning of study in HKUST

2.a.4.3. Students whose hall applications were rejected in the previous year(s) due to past disciplinary record(s) will not be considered for hall points in this section.

2.a.4.4. The eligibility for hall points in this section will be based on records stored in the Student Housing and Residential Life Office’s Hall Management Information System.
