Arts a-LIVE
The Arts a-LIVE Community draws together students who have a passion to develop their interests and experience in performing arts. Members of this community will go to various genres of performing arts live performances together with the Learning Community Fellow. Through the exposure to live performances, pre-performance and/or post-performance discussions and talks hosted by guest artists/speakers, members will start to recognize performing arts as a way to explore and express self. The activities will also extend members’ knowledge of performing arts and enhance their interest in the local performing arts scene.

Chuck-jee Chau is an active collaborative pianist. After his studies in CUHK majoring in Computer Engineering and minoring in Music and German, he conducted research on computer music under Prof. Andrew Horner on timbre analysis and visualization, as a graduate student in HKUST.

Chuck-jee is captivated by chamber music. Originating from the inspiring experience as a piano accompanist in his primary school, throughout the years he has been continuously sharing the stage with fellow music lovers. He is now the piano accompanist for the HKUST staff choir, and actively participates as the pianist in several orchestras. He is also founding members of the piano duo group Duetissimo, as well as the chamber ensemble The Music Circles. He never tires of supporting amateurs to perform or exchange views on music. While drilling in piano and marimba performances, he is at the same time engaged in musical theatre, a cappella, and jazz band music arrangement and production. He is currently working as a teaching staff and a computer music researcher in the Computer Science and Engineering Department of HKUST. He also serves as the rehearsal pianist in the HKUST Summer Musical Camp in recent years in the productions of “Guys and Dolls” and “Grease”.

Members of Arts a-LIVE Community will learn to:
  • Extend their knowledge of performing arts
  • Recognize performing arts as a way to explore and express self
  • Develop interest in the local performing arts scene
  • Develop skills to work effectively with teammates, motivate other members and coordinate team activities
